Years 11 and 12

In Year 11 students enrol in a pathway and courses that best suit their interests, abilities and future academic goals.

The College runs a comprehensive course selection process to support this important decision for students and their parents.

Students can choose a university pathway or a training pathway. We pride ourselves in matching the right course to the right student, based on ability and interest. More information can be found by contacting the college or by downloading our 2018 Year 11 Senior Schooling Curriculum Handbook/ 2017 Year 11 Senior Schooling Curriculum Handbook, 2017 Year 12 Senior Schooling Curriculum Handbook and What you need to know to succeed in Year 11 and 12 booklet.

Please download the Course Selection Information presented at the Year 10 Information Evening for further information.

Subject Selection Online

In 2017 the college will again be using Subject Selection Online (SSO). SSO is a state-of-the-art program that streamlines the course selection process for students and parents by having all relevant information available in one place.  This will be available to students and parents during the course selection periods in Term 2 and 3.  To view curriculum handbooks, make appointments with staff and pay deposits click the following link to access SSO

VET in Schools

Students can apply for VET in Schools Certificate II Pre-apprenticeship programs for trades like automotive, engineering, aero skills and hospitality.  Other courses such as educational support, community health, child care and fashion are also available.  These programs also involve one or two days of training at TAFE and may include a workplace learning component.  The programs take place outside the college at the various TAFEs and give students the opportunity to engage in adult learning environments.  They are competitive and places are limited.

Like all schools, we are only able to run courses if sufficient enrolments support this. To provide further curriculum offerings and greater choice to students in the local community, we share an alliance with both Cyril Jackson Senior Campus and Tuart College. Students are able to access online courses at Cyril Jackson or Tuart College if they are not available at John Forrest.

John Forrest students also have the opportunity to participate in a range of traineeship programs. Examples of traineeship opportunities that may be available are:

  • Automotive Retail
  • Building and Construction
  • Business and Clerical
  • Child Care
  • Horticulture
  • Hospitality
  • Information Technology
  • Public Sector
  • Retail Services
  • Transport and Logistics

Subject to a successful application.

As traineeships depend on employment contracts, participation cannot be guaranteed.
