Academic Excellence Program

John Forrest Secondary College consistently achieves outstanding academic results and has been acknowledged as a high performing school by the School Curriculum Standards Authority.

Our Academic Excellence Program is a school-based academic extension program.

It aims to challenge students with complex material and encourages high levels of thinking through a stimulating learning environment. Students are engaged in critical thinking and investigations to enable them to reach their full academic potential.

Our rigorous curriculum:

  • Focuses on the development of analytical, creative and evaluative thinking skills to prepare students for future success and leadership.
  • Incorporates the use of technology, debating, public speaking and role playing to present understanding of key ideas and concepts.
  • Allows opportunities to become self-reflective - personally, socially and academically.

Students have the opportunity to participate in a wide variety of local, national and international competitions that may include:

  • Frances Burt Law Society Competition
  • Debating organised by WADL
  • Tournament of Minds

  • Scholarships
    Scholarships will be offered to Year 6 and 7 students applying for the Academic
  • MAWA Have Sum Fun
  • MAWA Maths Talent Quest
  • Australian Mathematics Competition
  • ICAS English
  • ICAS Writing
  • ICAS Science
  • Asia Wise National Competition

Entry to this competitive program is open to Year 6 and is based on primary school results, NAPLAN results and a John Forrest Secondary College testing program and written application.

Scholarships are available to students who demonstrate outstanding academic ability and citizenship qualities.
