Computer Science Extension Program

Computer Science is an exciting and rapidly expanding field. Our College based Computer Science Extension Program has been designed to meet the growing demand for trained professionals in the field of computing.

The program provides exciting opportunities for interested students to extend their knowledge and skills in computing.

Course content focuses on:

  • Design of computer systems and user interfaces
  • Computer hardware design
  • Creation and management of databases

Students develop a variety of skills including:

  • Analysing network systems
  • Building a computer from scratch
  • Identifying all computer components and their functionality
  • Computer programming in Java and Visual Basic to advance student knowledge and interest in gaming technology

The program allows students to pursue a career in the computing industry by providing a continuous pathway to the Year 11 and 12 WACE courses in Computer Science.

YEAR 8 2019 COMPUTER SCIENCE EXTENSION PROGRAM (CURRENT YEAR 7 STUDENTS ONLY)

We are pleased to advise that the Computer Science Extension Program is available for Year 8 students in 2019 with high aptitude in Mathematics and Science. Please note only students who are currently at John Forrest SC in Year 7 (2018) are eligible to apply for the Computer Science Extension Program.

Places are limited. Should you be interested in your child taking up the opportunity to participate in this program please return application to the College by 26 October 2018.
