Skateboards, Roller Blades, Scooters & eRideables

Under current WA Laws eRiderbles (including eScooters, eSkateboards, hoverboards, eSkates, and eUnicycles) can only be ridden by people 16 years and older. For more information please visit the Road Safety Commission's Website. From 2 February 2026 the Department of Education has introduced a ban on the use and storage of eRideables and eBikes on public schools grounds by students under the age of 16.  From Term 1 2026, if a student under 16 brings an eRideable or eBike onto college grounds the device will be confiscated, and parents/carers will be contacted to collect the device.

eRideables of 16+ students, skateboards, roller blades and scooters are not to be used within the college grounds, and they must be secured at the bike rack between the Rec Centre and Trade Training Centre.  Students who bring these items to school do so at their own risk.

Cycling

Wear helmets when riding to and from the College.

Once on College grounds, get off your bicycle and wheel it to the bike racks.

Bike racks are provided for student use.

Students must secure their bicycle and helmet with a suitable lock.

Public Transport

John Forrest Secondary College is well serviced by public transport, with a large number of Transperth bus routes stopping directly at the school or at the nearby Galleria bus station.

Students are reminded to move down the bus as far as possible, and that school bags are to be placed under seats or on your lap.

To plan your journey to our College please visit the Transperth website for detailed maps and timetables. Time your bus travel to arrive at the College prior to 8:30am.

 SmartRider Cards

Students require a Student SmartRider card to travel on Transperth services (including any free travel initiatives), use as an I.D. card, signing in and out of the College for appointments, and checking books out of the library.

In order to issue cards, the PTA requires that parents/carers give their permission for schools to provide student details to the PTA for the purposes of registering the student concession travel and to enable the SmartRider card to be produced.

For a lost Smartrider card check if it has been handed into the Student Reception. To arrange a new Smartrider card visit the Library Resources Centre. It will cost $5.00 for a new card and $3.00 for a replacement card.

College Parking / Student Drop Off / Pick Up

Parents are encouraged to make use of alternative drop-off and pick up areas, a number of which are indicated on College maps.  Under no circumstances are City of Bayswater car parks to be used.  The City of Bayswater Ranger may undertake school parking patrols and issue infringements to those parents who are parking unlawfully. • Do NOT block access to the driveway – if all pick up bays are full, please drive around the block.
  • FOLLOW all signage regarding no parking, standing time limits, and clearway/no standing areas (buses require the turning space on return from excursion).
  • RESPECT our neighbours – please do not block driveways, road access and do not park or drive through the City of Bayswater carpark.
  • Drive SLOWLY and adhere to the speed limit within the College grounds (8km/hr).
