Students get a taste for the Swan Valley
The study focus for the Year 12 Certificate II in Tourism qualification has been the Swan Valley. The students have been researching this great region and what it has to offer. Over 2 separate days in early March, the Year 12s split into groups to explore this world famous region, visiting an array of tourist attractions. Their itinerary was determined by group interests and timing, and included:
- Margaret River Chocolate Factory – the students relished the chocolate tastings and observed how the products are made through viewing windows.
- Yahava Koffee Works – an interesting place to observe how the students can put into practice their previously achieved Barista qualifications.
- Lavender Bistro –French inspired café and gift shop, the students enjoyed Lavender flavoured ice-cream.
- Oggie’s Ice creamery – students enjoyed a bite to eat for lunch in the picturesque surroundings of West Swan Road.
- Edgecombe Brothers Café and Winery – more than just a winery and cafe, this destination also grows and sells fresh produce including table grapes, pumpkin and olives.
- Yagan Memorial Park - The students enjoyed a leisurely walk through the park where they learnt about a momentous occurrence in West Australian history – the return of Yagan’s kaat (head) from Britain and its rightful burial on Nyoongar land.
- Bell’s Rapids – after a short hiking trail over the bridge and through the beautiful Australian bushland, the Monday group enjoyed a relaxing picnic for afternoon tea organised by Briahna Ingram.
- The House of Honey – not only is this venue a meadery and café offering a variety of honey delights, but the students learnt about the running of an apiary and the traditional process of harvesting honey.
The days were a fantastic learning experience and satisfied some of the practical components of the Certificate II in Tourism.
