Term 1 Camp to Ern Halliday
Bush Ranger camp to Ern Halliday was a great way to wrap up Term 1 of 2021. We spent two days at Ern Halliday taking part in a number of activities while camping out in tents. We went swimming at the beach (in the rain), took part in abseiling/flying fox and had a go at archery. A significant goal for the Bush Ranger Cadets is to encourage students to step outside their comfort zone and take on any obstacle that they face. Abseiling and the Flying fox was a significant challenge for several of the cadets. The staff were all impressed with how well the cadets supported and encouraged each other to push themselves.
As for the archery . . . for a group of students with an interest in conserving the environment, there were an awful lot of arrows hitting trees and getting stuck in the ground and not too many actually hitting the target. Taking turns in their teams it was clear to see that they definitely improved with each shot. It was brilliant to hear the cadets all cheering each other on.
The staff on camp really enjoyed watching the cadets set up the camp, prepare the meals, engage in the activities, play games, talk with each other, clean up, do the dishes, pack up camp and generally have a good time throughout. We are looking forward to our Term 2 camp to Dryandra where we plan on helping out Parks and Wildlife Rangers with their conservation work in the Dryandra woodlands.
