Year 8 Social Issues Fundraiser Expo
On Monday the 13 December, Year 8 students in Ms Davis’ English class hosted an expo in an attempt to raise funds and awareness on different social issues of their choice. Students researched their issues and identified the most strategic way to make a difference, thinking about branding, marketing and the communication of relevant information. Other year 8 classes were invited along to check out the student’s wares and help with the fundraiser. The class raised nearly $400 which will be distributed to the student’s chosen charities.
Here are some of the student testimonials:
At the Year 8 AEP Social Issues Expo, it was great to see so many people participating in supporting all the different businesses and the issues they promoted. It was also really great to see so many people promoting issues that are extremely relevant in today’s society which are not talked about enough – Matilda Turley
During the Social Issues Expo, I really enjoyed working with my friends to spread such an important message. It was great to see other groups doing the same, as well as seeing students support our attempts in donating to HAART (Homeless and Abused Animal Rescue Team). – Citra Zoller
The Social Issues Expo we held was interesting and we all had a lot of fun. It was good to know that the money will go towards positive changes in our society. Our stall was selling ice cream sandwiches and cookies; we sold almost all of them and our stall was very popular in terms of demand. The issue we were raising money for was Racism in Sports and we are glad that our contribution will lead to the sporting industry improving and therefore improving the mental health of all impacted. Our fabulous teacher, Ms Davis, supported us throughout the entire process and I appreciate that she gave us an opportunity to positively impact our world. – Jennifer Mykevski
