Year 9 Cricket Camp 2021
During the first week of November students from the Year 9 Cricket Program travelled south to compete in the annual Rockingham Cricket Carnival. Eight Teams from Perth and the South West region competed in the mixed format event (30-40 over games). Though competition was fierce, enjoyment of the game and team building were paramount.
Please find below the Captains Reports from each day's games.
Day One – JFSC v Kent Street 1
On day one, we played Kent Street 1. In the midst of slippery and muddy conditions, our opening bowlers started off the innings well. Blake and Veronica finished with figures of 1-18 & 1-19. We managed to hold the opposition down to only 9/178, thanks to a couple of good bowling spells from Kane (3-27), Jack (2-34) & Joey (1-18). Some poor fielding cost the team an extra 20 or so runs. Batting second, our openers put on a good start, with Om and Mitchell putting on 18 quick runs. The top scorer for the innings was Oliver, with 51 off 74. John Forrest finished 10/111, losing by 67 runs.
- Oliver Brandes (Captain – Day 1)
Day Two – JFSC v Kent Street 3
On day two we had lost the toss and the opposition elected to bat first. The opening bowlers Mohith and Denver had a great start but couldn't get a wicket. Om and Veronica were first change bowlers and bowled tight in their first two overs and struggled the rest but Om had got rid of one of their dangerous batsmen. The 2 spinners Vraj and Joey came on and saved a lot of runs and Xavier had bowled a couple of good overs. After our bowling session, we were chasing over 200 runs and the batting did not start off well as we had lost Om in the first over and Andrew in the next few. Mohith and Rudra had pushed hard, but Rudra had to walk back after 11 overs and Mohith followed him after the next over. Xavier had come in and got out in a few overs and Oliver and Ines had built a 50 plus partnership but Ines had departed. Oliver hit his 50 and departed a few balls later. The bottom order had collapsed but at the end we had achieved most of KPI [ Key Performance Indicators]
- Mohith Kesavan (Captain – Day 2)
Day Three – JFSC v Butler College
On Day three we played Butler. We bowled first and got a few early wickets while the energy was high. We ended up bowling them all for 100 runs, Jack and Vraj bowled spectacularly and got a few wickets each. Our fielding was amazing apart from the wides, we bowled good line and length and the energy levels were insane throughout the whole first innings. When we went in to bat we didn't have a very good first over with a wicket but then Mohith and Toby made an outstanding partnership to start us off. We ended up making 170 odd with the win. This was an amazing game and a great way to finish off our camp.
- Blake Szewczuk (Captain – Day 3)
