Year 8 Cricket Camp 2022
Week 8 this term saw the last of the Cricket Specialist Program Camps for the year. The Year 8 students travelled to the Southwest, playing cricket matches against teams from both Perth and Bunbury.
Camp review by Dorm leaders: Jai Jones and Riley Bridger
On Tuesday the 29th of November we had to get to school early to play Kennedy College in our first game of the week. We did well to win that game even in the hot weather. Thanks to Mr Sands we had plenty of water and Powerade to keep us hydrated. At the end of the game, we put a focus on our recovery, with Mr Carroll taking us for some cool down stretches. Then we had 200 ml's of chocolate milk which was in our hydration plan, to give us some protein to aide our recovery. The chocolate milk was something we looked forward to after every game.
Then we had a two and a half our drive to our campsite in Busselton. After getting off the bus and putting our bags away we headed straight to the beach to play beach soccer until sunset. After that we showered then had dinner, we completed our camp booklet which reviewed the day and plan for tomorrow's game before going to bed.
We were then up at 6 am on Wednesday to make our own breakfast and get ready for the game against Dalyellup. It was tough conditions against their year 9's with it extremely windy, we did well to fight hard all day. After the game we headed back to our campsite straight to the beach for a swim. After that we showered then started cooking sausages for dinner. After dinner we met the tennis group at Busselton Tennis Club to play some night tennis until 8:30pm. Once back at campsite we filled out our Camp booklets and went straight to bed.
Thursday morning was the same as yesterday up early to cook breakfast and then drive to Bunbury Cathedral Grammar. This was an amazing game which ended up in a tie 211 each. After the game and our chocolate milk we headed straight back to the campsite then showered and got ready to head to Busselton for dinner and a movie. The movie was a little boring with Mr Bartlett form the tennis group picking the Disney movie Strange World. Once at the campsite we did our booklet and backed our bags ready for Friday.
Friday we were up even earlier the usual to eat breakfast and pack the bus to head back home. Before that we had one last game against Butler in a T20 and although we didn't win the game was close. After a Subway lunch we got on the Bus and head back to school where we were all tired after a long week. After getting back to school we had to unload the trailer and tidy the bus before we could head back home to catch up on our sleep.
Thank you to Mr Sands who organised the camp and Mr Carroll for help make it an enjoyable week for all.
