Students gain global STEM insight
On 25 March the Year 10 STEM Sustainability students got an insight into how the United Nations (UN) works and ways in which they can act and advocate towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (STGs) from guest speaker Hannah Woodward.
She spoke about her experience going to the UN commission on the Status of Women as apart of Girl Guides, she has worked for Save the Children and is currently Justice Reinvestment Development Officer at Social Reinvestment WA.
The class discovered many ways in which we can make change ranging from personal action to gaining group involvement, fundraising, awareness raising and focused advocacy, and discussed the effectiveness and examples of each.
At the end she offered links to many different organisations that help support youth advocacy and after sharing her story of making a difference she left the class inspired and with knowledge that will no doubt be helpful later in the course.
It was a great way to see how the skills and knowledge we have learnt can be used in the real world to make an impact.
