In a transformative camping excursion to Queensland, 18 students and 3 staff, alongside the Raw Impact Team, ventured to the Yumba region in the Gunggari Nation.
The trip, planned over 18 months, involved significant fundraising efforts, totalling over $10,000. This money was donated to the Gunggari Nation to support the realization of a vision spanning three generations—a project focused on rebuilding and maintaining the original camping grounds, a place where many Gunggari families once resided before being displaced. Guided by the Raw Impact Team, students and staff actively participated in various initiatives, including reconstructing the old gaming shed, repainting the old school, adding to the timber collection, and preparing for a woodfire oven. This endeavour showcased a blend of cultural immersion, community support, and hands-on engagement. The journey culminated in a memorable hike through the Carnarvon Gorge, adding a profound natural experience to their enriching cultural expedition.

Some quotes from students who were lucky enough to be involved in projects and spend time learning from the incredible Gunggari Aunties, Uncles and knowledge-holders.
The Raw Impact trip proved to be an exciting adventure, allowing us students to obtain knowledge and establish connections with people we weren't as familiar or close with. The natural beauty of Queensland was breathtaking, and waking up to the songs of birds and astonishing sunrises in Mitchell was truly incredible. Personally, I really enjoyed immersing myself in the culture, cultural activities and languages. It was really touching hearing the stories and histories shared by the locals. – Tamara Year 11
This trip was AMAZING! Honestly, I only had a very small idea of what we were planning to do. But I am so glad I was a part of this trip. Being able to experience campfires with The Raw Impact listening to dreamtime stories and the didgeridoo while looking up at the stars, Having the woman talk with the Aunties learning untold stories, learning how they were so in touch with nature and land around them as well as learning how they used basket weaving. It was so much fun to just connect with the Aunties in such a special place. The CARNARVON HIKE! before this hike I hated hikes. But it was the BEST hike ever. Being able to experience such special places and learn so much. It was just so relaxing and I am 100% convincing my family to go to Queensland just for the Carnarvon hike. The memories made on this trip will stay with me forever which I think is so special. Thank you so much!! I can't wait for the next trip!! - Ava Year 10
The trip really impacted me positively from all the new experiences, and seeing just how resilient the indigenous community is towards all cultures, and still willing to welcome us onto their sacred land, where many others will never have the privilege to ever go. – Scarlett Year 11
