Farewell to Class of 2023
On 30th November we officially congratulated our Class of 2023 and wished them all the best on their future endeavours.
Alongside the anticipation of what the next year or two will bring, the ceremony provided a time to reflect on the years of education that have past and what lessons have been learned. Furthermore, a time to carve out a path for a successful and fulfilling future that each student can be proud of.
On the evening, our Principal, Ms Denise Robinson, reflected on the final years of the students' unique secondary education, and the prominence of the word 'unprecedented'. Unprecedented global pandemic, global warming, and global conflicts.
She reminded us that, t hrough this, our students have grown not only academically but as individuals who understand the value of community, compassion, and connection. An understanding that it's not only about individual achievements, but also the positive impact we make on the lives of others.
Our students were commended for demonstrating this throughout their time at the College by volunteering, supporting one another, and celebrating each other's achievements.
"To the Class of 2023, your thoughts shape your reality, and in choosing them wisely, you have the power to keep yourself healthy.
It takes courage to choose your own thoughts in the face of overwhelming noise – and in choosing your own thoughts, recognise helpful thoughts, as distinct from unhelpful thoughts, and choose the thoughts most helpful to you.
Amanda Gorman, the young American poet and activist, who recited her work The Hill We Climb at the inauguration of President Biden, spoke of hope and optimism.
The final line of her poem is:
For there is always light, if only we're brave enough to see it. If only we're brave enough to be it.
Congratulations, Class of 2023. May your futures be filled with the courage to seize both opportunities and challenges, the wisdom to choose your thoughts, the compassion to connect with others, and the grace to assume positive intent in every interaction".
