Year 8 Carnival Games – Maths in Action
Our Year 8 students recently became game designers, creating and running their very own Carnival Games based on two-step probability. Working in teams, they designed games that were fun, fast, and challenging – and then tested each other’s creations during our “Carnival Walk.”
From spinners and dice races to creative twists involving cards, colours, and chance, students combined mathematical reasoning with imagination and fair-play thinking. Each group calculated theoretical and experimental probabilities, then competed for the class titles of Most Fun, Most Fair, and Most Sneaky/Unfair Game.
The room was buzzing with excitement, laughter, and plenty of strategic thinking as players tried their luck and designers fine-tuned their odds. Congratulations to all teams for their creativity and enthusiasm!
