enRICHment Beach Reward Day
On Wednesday in Week 9 of Term 4 we went to Swanbourne Beach for a reward excursion to work on our group skills and have some fun with our friends before we finish up the year in the Year 7 and 8 Enrichment classes. Breeanna and Aaliyah gave the Acknowledgement of Country, which they did off by heart and without any practise, it was a fantastic start to our day at this special location.
We started by playing and running in the sand with races for the first activity and this got rid of most of our energy. Then we went swimming with the humungous waves and everyone kept going under the water when the big waves came. The was cool, really sandy and had not that many shells but a little ditch to get to where the water was.
"I met some new people in Year 8 and it was interesting to hang out at the beach" Dakota
"The swimming was amazing but we had a short amount of time. I fell on the ground and sand was scraping me across but it was cool. If we didn't have the waves it would have been boring" Aaliyah and Breeanna
"The waves were waving back" Louise
"It was so fun and I enjoyed it, even though I did get a bit of sunburn. Especially the hotdogs and watermelon" Conner
"The best sausage turners around, it was exceptional weather and a brilliant day" Ms Zollo
"I still can't believe Ms Wray walked into the water in all her clothes! I'll be laughing about that and getting wiped out into Jet for a week at least!"
Then we got told to make sandcastles up to the shortest person in the group's waist, with a moat and a bridge in 15 minutes. The groups worked really fast for the whole time and Dakota, Melba, Casey-Lee, Kira and Lily's group (and Breeanna when the boys wrecked theirs before the judging). Then it was time for hotdogs for lunch and we sat around and played. When we went back to the beach we went for a quick swim then all of us had to lay face down to do some races to the poles stuck in the sand. People got out each time and it came down to Josiah and Jay, but Josiah was too fast for him and won the race. Then we played a cricket game on the sand with Mr Phoenix and went for another swim, staying in there until it was time for watermelon and coming back to school.
Thanks to all the teachers, Mrs Beare, Mrs Gatti, Mr Phoenix, Mr Glossop, Ms Wray and Mrs Zollo for planning the whole thing. We all had a great day and we hope we can do it next year!
