Indigenous Art Mural Opening Ceremony
Friday 17 August the College celebrated the opening of The Indigenous Art Mural in the Exam Centre. The Indigenous Art Mural was collaboratively created by our Indigenous students in 2017 and facilitated by a special group of John Forrest Secondary College staff.
There was a wonderful atmosphere in the Exam Centre among the Indigenous participants, family members, staff and special guests gathered to Celebrate. We had an amazing Acknowledgement of Country by Christina Bodney, Opening Address by City of Bayswater Deputy Mayor Chris Cornish, Principals Address by Melissa Gillett who also handed out participation certificates to students. Everyone then enjoyed a delicious lunch with Kangaroo hotdogs and Mini dampers with Quangdong jam. After lunch family members were escorted to see the wonderful Art Mural which they were very impressed with and no doubt very proud of the efforts the students have put in.
The College thanks our special guest City of Bays Water Deputy Mayor Chris Cornish for your Opening Address and attending our event. A thank you also goes out to all the College staff who have shown generous support throughout the entire project.
A big congratulation to all the Indigenous students who participated, attended the event and our student helpers, we are very proud of all the student's efforts and very proud that the Indigenous Art Mural will be on display for years to come.
