Students Try-A-Trade in 2019
Throughout 2019, a number of Year 9 and 10 students participated in Construction Training Fund (CTF) funded Try-A-Trade Programs with a variety of construction Registered Training Organisations (RTOs). All of the programs made use of the facilities in the John Forrest Trade Training Centre.
These programs have given students hands-on experience across a range of different trades including Tiling, Bricklaying, Carpentry, Plumbing and Painting.
Professional lecturers delivered each course, guiding students through practical activities and teaching key trade skills. The students also gained helpful information from presentations by Industry Training Advisors about careers and apprenticeships in the Building and Construction Industry.
As an addition to the Try-A-Trade Program, students spent one of the days working towards their White Card. The White Card training was also fully funded by CTF.
These programs have been extremely successful and a positive learning experience for all students involved. John Forrest Secondary College would like to extend our appreciation to the following companies for making the Try-A-Trade programs possible:
- Construction Training Fund – CTF
- MPA Skills
- Skill Hire
- Trade Academy WA
