ANZAC Day Assembly 2019
On a sunny morning on Friday 12 April the College community gathered together to remember those who have served Australia, both past and present, and to reflect on the life and opportunities we have because of their service.
The College was honoured to have numerous special guests attend the ceremony, including Mr Dan Bull, Mayor of the City of Bayswater; Ms Helen Bolin, President of the College P&C Committee; Mr John Fragomeni, representing the Bedford-Morley Returned Services League; Doug Fettes, who is a Vietnam Veteran; and Lieutenant Andrew Philp, 2011 John Forrest Graduate and Troop Leader with A Squadron, 10th Light Horse Regiment. Sadly, we had an empty chair on stage this year. Ted Dubberlin, who was a wonderful friend of John Forrest Secondary College, passed away late last year at the age of 92. He attended every ANZAC Day service we held going back to at least 2001. He was a WWII commando in a unit called Special Operations Directorate (more commonly known as Z Force).
Superbly performed musical numbers were provided by the Senior Band and the Chamber Choir with the Last Post and Reveille performed on Bugle by Jared Penfold (Year 8). Georgia Nannup (Year 12) opened proceedings with the Acknowledgement to Country and The Ode was delivered by Jack Trotter (Year 12 Prefect). However, it was this year's ANZAC Address provided by Lieutenant Andrew Philp which stole the show and provided both inspiration and food for thought for all who heard it.
