Health Expo 2019
On Wednesday 21 August students from all year groups were invited to explore and participate in the JFSC Health Expo 2019. This annual event was organised and run by the Year 12 Health Studies Students as part of a major assessment task. The Year 12 Students had to choose a health issue concerning young people, write some focus questions to conduct their research and create an engaging stall for the expo. The Year 12 students set up stalls to display and share the knowledge and research obtained as part of their course studies.
Visitors were able to interact with the 23 different stalls and activities on offer throughout the school day. Stalls included outside agencies such as AA, Zero to Hero, Helping Minds, Headspace, Freedom Centre and Reach.
The Year 12 students did an absolutely outstanding job and were completely exhausted by the end of the day. Some of the comments from staff:
" Our students really enjoyed it. They came back to class talking about what they learnt and were impressed with the displays (especially prizes too)."
"The Year 12 students were buzzing when I went around. They seemed to really enjoy what they were doing"
"This year's group has done a fantastic job, probably the best one yet. They knew their content knowledge well and the young ones seemed to engage with the learning"
The students had to complete a reflection sheet as part of their assessment task the day following the expo which included a number of questions asking them about the day. Some of their responses included:
"It was a fun way to complete an assessment task. Much different to a written task where we don't get to show our creative side."
"I liked doing the expo. It was fun. I was pretty tired at the end of the day and learnt that dealing with young kids is very tiring"
"I enjoyed doing an assignment on a topic that I like and am interested in. I got to then display my knowledge in a more practical way which is better for me"
It was a big day and the students of the College enjoyed their time in the expo. We hope to continually improve for a bigger and better expo in 2020.
