Students take a walk through Perth’s History
During June the IPP students travelled to Perth CBD for three tours with Two Feet & a Heartbeat. These tours allowed students to discover the wonders of Perth now as well as historical aspects of the city.
On Tuesday 11 June the IPP students started their exploration of Perth at Yagan Square. From here they explored the West end of the Perth City Centre.
Tour 2 on 18 June saw students head towards the Hay and Murray Street Malls to discover the malls, arcades and the State Buildings.
The final day on 25 June saw students checking out His Majesty’s Theatre which originally was a school as well as the mural and rooftop views from the City of Perth Library.
Within these tours students also were thrilled to discover more about the College’s namesake Sir John Forrest and his relationship with Tommy Windich. Tommy was an Aboriginal tracker and explorer who accompanied John Forrest on three expeditions, acting as scout. Without Tommy’s intricate knowledge of the land, waterholes and food sources, as well as the cultural protocols necessary to travel across Aboriginal Nation borders, the famed explorations of John Forrest would not have been possible. Students checked out the plaque dedicated to Tommy Windich on their final tour day.
