Students Discover Kings Park's Hidden Treasures
On a beautifully fine Thursday 22 August the students and staff from the College's Independent Pathways Program travelled to Kings Park to participate in the From Firesticks to Fireworks program.
Here students learnt about the history of Kaarta Koomba (Kings Park) and its cultural significance for the local Nyoongar people. On a tour of the park students discovered how Nyoongar people used the different plants and animals for such things as food, medicine, shelter and warmth as well as how Nyoongar people had six seasons throughout the year, not the European model of four seasons. The day concluded with students creating a journey stick to record their personal journey through Kings Park.
