Netball Academy Day 2019
Netball Academy Day at Belmont Oasis Leisure Centre was the first event on our 2019 Netball calendar. The program provided students with the opportunity to participate in a variety of fitness classes including Boxercise, Attack and the new dance style craze Benefit. Year 7 and 8 students were involved in a training session and Goal Shooting workshop with Roxanne Edwards, our visiting professional coach.
Year 9 and 10 students were lucky to have a visit from Ingrid Colyer, West Coast Fever player and School and Community Support Officer for the West Coast Eagles. Ingrid presented an engaging session on goal-setting and resilience. Students were very fortunate to hear an insight into the life of an elite athlete and the role goal setting had played in Ingrid's athlete pathway. Students participated in activities to develop their own goals. Ingrid also provided an insight into the lifestyle of West Coast Eagles premiership players and the importance of resilience. John Forrest SC is very grateful to the West Coast Eagles for being so accommodating and enabling our Netball students the opportunity to speak with and meet one of their Netball role models.
All year groups were involved in match play which provided the opportunity for coaching staff to begin team selection for inter-school competitions. Even though it is early in the pre-season staff were impressed with the quality of netball that was displayed on the day. After lunch the students were able to enjoy a recovery swim.
Staff were very impressed with the positive attitude and exemplary behaviour of all Netball students. Well done girls!
