Poetry in Action
We don't often put the words 'poetry' and 'action together, but a recent English Department incursion showed us just how active and powerful poetry can be.
On Wednesday 28 August Year 8 and 10 students were treated to performances by actors from Poetry in Action, a touring theatre company dedicated to unlocking the power of words, inspiring audiences and presenting poetry in new and fun ways.
Students in Year 10, who have been studying persuasive techniques this year, watched a performance called 'Words That Changed The World'. In a fast and furious battle of wits, the actors showcased the way rhetoric works to make us think and act.
Year 8 students, many of whom have been studying and writing their own poetry, clapped and cheered as the actors showed them 'The Power of Poetry' to tell cool stories, give people a voice and even make someone fall in love.
These performances were described by students as 'awesome' and they left laughing and talking about what they had seen and learned. Thank you Poetry in Action for visiting us at John Forrest and inspiring in our students a new awareness of the power of the words we use.
