Art and Culture Collide for Senior School Students
Senior School Art students were immersed in Culture and Art at the Perth Cultural Centre and Art Gallery of Western Australia (AGWA) on Thursday 11 April 2019.
Students explored the grounds of the Perth Cultural Centre to discover the State Library, Perth Institute of Contemporary Art (PICA), the partially constructed Perth Museum (due to open in 2020), the Blue Room Theatre, Gotham Studios, the Perth Cultural Centre Play Space and a myriad of other cultural and historic buildings and entities.
Inside AGWA, students were treated to a visual feast of artwork by some of the best, brightest and most talented graduating WA high school art students in the Year 12 'Pulse Perspectives' exhibition. Laughing and frivolity ensued as students tied yellow fabric strips in all manner of bows, plaits, pom poms and knots to the Pulse Perspectives Mood Wall. They also viewed a stunning array of paintings, sculptures, textile works, installations and performance art in the 'DESERT RIVER SEA, Portraits of the Kimberley' Australian Indigenous Art Exhibition.
Lunch and break times were spent on the steps of the Cultural Centre Wetlands; a delightful and refreshing oasis and important Whadjuk Noongar cultural icon.
It was an exciting, fun, inspiring and educational all-day excursion enjoyed by everyone involved.
Art teachers Gail Bailey and Guy Roberts look forward to the next excursion in 2020 when students will get to see the long-awaited unveiling of the Perth Museum and exciting new art exhibitions.
