State Solar Car Challenge 2019
On Tuesday 12 November 2019 seven JFSC Engineering Club teams participated in the Infinite Energy Solar Car Challenge for secondary students. This was an enjoyable day for all involved, with the JFSC teams showing great teamwork and problem solving capability with all the cars performing exceedingly well.
In the end our Year 12 Team "Fulcrum" were announced as the overall winners and also took out the awards for Best Engineered Car and Best Video Presentation. Two Year 7 teams also came away with prizes. The team "Irrational Paper Gazelles" came in Third Place while "The Tardis" team won the most Spectacular Crash. This crash was indeed spectacular – a car from another school went off the tracks in front of our car… our car smashed through the opposition car and then continued on the track to complete the race!
A team of 10 students will now be heading to Hobart (30 November – 2 December) to compete in the Australian International Model Solar Challenge. We are the current title holders of this competition and are going to defend out title won last year in Sydney.
Many thanks to Mr Robert Woodward, Ms Mandy Vale and Miss Fayth Good for their work with all of the students.
