Mid Term Cricket Results – Term 1 2019
JFSC Cricket Students have made a strong start to 2019 with wins in the Kim Hughes Shield and games against Belridge Secondary College and Kent Street SHS for Year 7 to 10 Students. Results below:
1st XI Cricket – Kim Hughes Shield
The 1st XI are well on their way to defending their Kim Hughes Shield Title with some impressive wins throughout the five rounds of the competition.
Game One: JFSC v Kent St SHS
A great win from a difficult position after being 7/78 and 8/102, an excellent 52 run 9th wicket stand between Nakul Tewari and Connor Gibson meant we had a total we could defend. The team then bowled and fielded very well. Early wickets to Jackson Newman and Matt Sadler put Kent Street under pressure. Then Kieran Abrams bowled 10 overs for only 11 runs to keep the pressure on. Jack Coles then finished off the innings with 3 quick wickets. – Mr Davis
Game Two: JFSC v Belridge SC
The only loss of the home and away games was disappointing because we had several chances to take control of the game. Belridge applied themselves to make 211 from their 50 overs with the only highlight being two run outs by Nakul Tewari. The run chase looked promising at times. Unfortunately after being 3/102, with a good innings from Jack Trotter, then Jake Egan and Jack Coles starting to get on top we lost regular wickets and were bowled out with 6 overs left in the innings.– Mr Davis
Game Three: JFSC v Newman College
Newman won the toss and batted and started well to be 0/38, but after Jackson Newman got the first wicket the spin twins of Eli Ward-Armstrong (recently back from captaining the WA 15's at the national championships in Queensland) and Kieran Abrams slowed the scoring and took regular wickets. The Newman tail wagged a little bit to get them to 9-140 from their 40 overs. We were in early trouble at 3/18, but a mature 89 run stand from Gus McKeon (also recently returned from the National 15's) and Jake Egan steadied the innings. Jake finished the match in style taking 14 from the last over of the match. – Mr Davis
Game Four: JFSC v Kennedy Baptist College
This was a potential danger game, shown by Kennedy BC beating Belridge in the last round. The John Forrest bowling attack was without leaders Jackson Newman and Jack Coles. This proved only to motivate the boys to set a high standard. The bowling was extremely accurate with all bowlers used going at 3 an over or less. The result was that Kennedy BC were restricted to 9/81 from their 40 overs. This proved to be an easy target with the runs being scored in the 22nd over. All four batsmen Alex McFarlane, Gus McKeon, Jake Egan, and Eli Ward-Armstrong looked in control as they steered the team to a good win – Mr Davis
Game Five: JFSC v Darling Range Sports College
We had an easy win against a depleted Darling Range SC team. Jack Coles won the toss and most of the batsman helped themselves to some easy runs. Kieran Abrams, Jack Trotter and Gus McKeon put together good partnerships in the middle overs then Adam Carlson finished the innings with 51 not out from 24 balls. Unfortunately, Darling Range's batting was no better than their bowling and they were in trouble early at 5/11 thanks to some fiery attacking bowling from Jackson Newman. The innings finished with Darling Range all out for 61. This meant that John Forrest SC finished on top of the table and earnt the right to host Kent St in the semi-final. – Mr Davis

Year 10 Cricket
Game One: JFSC v Belridge SC
John Forrest 82 def by Belridge 98. We batted first and lost early wickets to some good swing bowling by Belridge. Ryan Szewczuk and Bank Chaichana batted sensible and patiently and got us to a respectable score. Some late hitting by Callum Westwood at number 11 got us to a total of 82. In reply Belridge were 4/13 early on with Alex Hardiman and Chase Hoy bowling well to do the damage. Unfortunately they had a 50 run 5th wicket stand which got them over the line. – Mr Morey
Game Two: JFSC v Kent St SHS
John Forrest 9/161 lost to Kent St SHS 4/162. After being 2 for 16, William Baxter (38) and Noah Gough (15) batted well to take the score to 58. For the remainder of the innings we lost wickets regularly to get to a total for 161 from our 40 overs with Harry Pannu scoring 20 not out at the end of the innings. On a good batting wicket Kent St batted well to get the runs in the 32nd over with Callum Westwood returning the best figures with 2/8. – Mr Davis
Year 9 Cricket
Game One: JFSC v Belridge SC
Due to lack of numbers we played two T20 games instead of the usual 40 over games. We kept Belridge to 6/106. The game went down to the last couple of overs and unfortunately we weren't able to get the job done falling short by 8 runs. Standouts with the ball were Noah Gough 2/13 and Aiden Nduracha 2/12 and with the bat George Edwards 20 and Ryan Skett 10 n.o.
The second game was reduced to 16 overs due to time. Belridge scored 4/94 and we were unable to match that falling short for 5/47 off 13 overs (due to time). – Mr Serafino
Game Two: JFSC v Kent St SHS
We bowled well for the first 20 overs taking 4 wickets but were unable to keep up the attack as Kent Street's stronger batters went on to make some strong partnerships and score 5/201 off 40 overs. We struggled with the bat against their number of spin bowlers and were bowled out for 113. Standouts for the day were Dylan Horrigan 19 n.o, Aiden Nduracha 18, Ryan Skett & Noah Gough 16. The wickets were shared around with George Edwards, Hunter Pugh, Sachin Suresh, Jack Criddle and Trent Gorrupi-Hughes taking one each. – Mr Serafino
Year 8 Cricket
Game One: JFSC v Belridge SC
JFSC – 9/132 beat Belridge SC 10/95. JFSC batted well to bat their overs out with the highlight of the innings being a 55 run partnership between Cooper Ilich-King (34) and Will Menner (32). The team bowled and fielded well to dismiss Belridge for 95. Leading wicket takers were Brandon Cappeau 2/9 and Kade Barrett 2/7. – Mr Davis
Year 7 Cricket
Game One: JFSC v Belridge SC
This was the Year 7's first game as a team for JFSC. The team playing on the Turf wicket, which is a lot bigger than what they're used to playing on, batted well to score 107. Congratulations to Oliver Brandes De Roos who made his first half century for JFSC. We went in to bowl and bowled them all out for 77 with a standout performance from Ines McKeon taking 3 wickets off her 3 overs.
The team on the Astro wicket batted well to score 142. Unfortunately, that wasn't quite enough as Belridge went on to make 160 off their 35 overs. A big mention goes out to all the Year 7s for their great enthusiasm and sportsmanship throughout the day. – Mr Serafino
Game Two: JFSC v Kent St SHS
This day wasn't our day with both teams having a loss. Kent Street scored 130 on the Turf wicket and we were unable to match that with some impressive bowling from Kent Street who bowled us out for 50 odd. On the Astro wicket it was our bowling that let us down. We gave up 60+ sundries which proved to be the difference. I was impressed with our positive reinforcement and encouragement even when we were under the pump. A special mention goes to Denver Scott who took a ripper catch on the boundary. – Mr Serafino
