Write a Book in a Day
A fun and creative challenge for you and the gift of reading for sick children
On Monday 19 August 2019, 53 students from Years 7 to 11 participated in "Write a Book in a Day". This Library event not only marked the commencement of Book Week but also helped raise funds for The Kids' Cancer Project.
Write a Book in a Day is a national team based competition where students are presented with a set of parameters (word count, characters, setting, issue and random words) that their book had to include. This nine-and-a-half-hour marathon included all aspects of book production, including the planning, writing, editing, illustrating and final binding.
The event was a day of literary fun and teamwork and our library was a hive of activity. Participants are already eager for the competition next year. All 8 books produced by JFSC Students have been donated children's hospitals across Australia. The competition within the College raised over $2,000.00 in sponsorship and entry fees with proceeds being donated to the The Kids' Cancer Project. Winners for the JFSC Competition were announced today with "The Inverse Lamington" by the group The Topaz Glimmer of the Wind taking out Overall Winner. Best Cover Art was awarded to "The Statue" by The Brilliant Book Writers and Best Illustrations awarded to "Koko's Journey to Happiness" by GETH LLAMA. Thank you to everyone involved in the day. The quality of work submitted was phenomenal.
National competition is still to come with finalists to be announced at the end of October and winners in November. All the best to all entrants.
