Prefects help plan City of Bayswater’s future
On Monday the 9th of March, the prefects gathered in the library with two representatives from the City of Bayswater Council. We discussed plans for improving the City of Bayswater over the next 10 years.
First, we thought of what we liked about being part of the City of Bayswater. This included the wide range of facilities we can use that are in close proximity, such as Bayswater Waves, Morley Recreation Centre, Galleria Shopping Centre, Morley and Bayswater libraries and even our own school. We also appreciate the attempt by the council to make our environment clean, such as planting new trees and providing dog clean-up bags near bins at parks.
Second, we were asked what we think the City of Bayswater would look like in the next 10 years, such as what improvements could be made. Many of us agreed on certain roads and intersection which were quite unsafe and could be made into a set of lights or roundabouts. We also discussed the fact that the council could plant more trees in parks to help the environment.
Furthermore, we learnt about the youth activities the council organizes, and that we could join the Youth Advisory Council (YAC). YAC meets monthly and is made of 15-25-year-olds who discuss the future of the council, so the voice of the youth can be heard.
I think that this was a great opportunity as we were able to have our opinions heard by people who will actually put them into action. It makes us feel part of a community who cares for their youth. We all look forward to seeing the impact of our ideas.
