Students search for mutations at Harry Perkins
The Harry Perkins Institute of Medical Research hosted students from the Year 12 Human Biology classes on Thursday 22 and Friday 23 July as they continued their studies into inheritance and genetic mutation.
This was a fantastic opportunity for students to undertake a tour of some of the facilities, engage in laboratory sessions to use the processes of PCR (Polymerase Chain Reaction) and gel electrophoresis to search for mutations, and utilise facilities only found at such medical research facilities.
The excursion was informative, taking part in experiments made entire excursion more enjoyable. It further developed my understanding on PCR and gel electrophoresis. - Riza A
I found the excursion to be quite entertaining and engaging, which ultimately helped solidify my understanding of PCR and other various techniques. – Ashish S
Many thanks to the Harry Perkins Institute for hosting our students.
