Students gain insight through PARTY
Select Year 11 and 12 Health students travelled to Royal Perth Hospital (RPH) on Wednesday 4 August to participate in the RPH Prevent Alcohol and Risk-related Trauma in Youth (P.A.R.T.Y.) Program, as part of the East Metropolitan Health Service.
Students were able to experience the journey of an imaginary trauma patient from the hospital's Emergency Department through to the Intensive Care Unit and Trauma Wards. This was a highly educational and enlightening day which allowed students to gain a greater understanding of the possible consequences of their actions in relation to alcohol, drugs and other risky behaviours.
The day was about learning and becoming aware of the severity of alcohol or drug related injuries that come into the emergency room and understand that it can be prevented through smart decision making. It was a great eye-opening experience that allowed us to engage and experience firsthand the medical field. The decisions you make affect a wide group of people as well as yourself and the impact one dangerous decision can have on everyone's lives. – Pia D (Year 12 Student)
Going to Royal Perth Hospital was a really good experience for us, not only learning about the risks that drink driving can cause and how we can lower them, but also being able to see what jobs there are to offer in a hospital environment. If anyone in the upcoming years gets the opportunity to go, I extremely recommend it! – Kalinda P (Year 11 Student).
