Year 12s get UniReady
Exploring what their possible university careers could hold was the aim of the game on Tuesday 15 June 2021 as Year 12 UniReady students travelled to Curtin University. Students spent the day participating in a range of activities including Q&A sessions with current students, meeting the UniReady crew, undertaking library research and exploring future pathways.
This was an eye-opening and educational experience where students finished the day with a greater sense of what their possible university careers could hold for them.
After the excursion, I am looking forward to applying as soon as possible and get into the course that I like. The excursion is something that every student that does UniReady should be a part of and also the excursion told me about how to apply and which courses I am able to do through UniReady and has made me confident about attending university. - Adarsh Patel
I learnt about how different university is from high school. It is a lot bigger than I thought and it was really interesting to hear about Uni life from current students. After walking around Curtin I am now looking forward to my future at university and the upcoming unit in UniReady. I didn't expect campus to be so big and I was very excited by all of the fun and unique clubs. I think that the excursion was very useful and I definitely learned a lot more about university life than I thought I would. This has helped ease my stress about the complication and difficulty of university and has made me feel excited about studying to be a primary school teacher. – Ashleigh Adam
It was very useful for informing me of all the benefits that Curtin presents to its potential students and has enlightened my previously limited view of my future to greater proportions. I am looking forward to making sure that I am eligible to enrol in the course that I will be applying for. – Christian Genete
I learnt about what the Curtin campus looks like, what courses they offer, and how to apply for it online. I did not know that University schedule was so flexible and was worried that the schedule would be somewhat like school. The excursion was very useful for me as I came to a better understanding of what to expect in university and the courses I am interested in. I am looking forward to study secondary education in Curtin to become a high school art teacher in the future. Also maybe study graphics design or visual arts. – Lucy Chen
This has DEFINITELY helped me gain more confidence, and provided more aspirations on what life is like in university, and with all this understanding, I feel more confident in doing my passionate course in university, theoretically I think this helps me develop better social skills because I will have people who are enjoying, doing the same course as me. – Jimmy Doan
I concluded that it's better to apply to university if you have clear specific goals you want to do in your life because you would be doing a minimum of 3-4 years of a course you thought you like but turns out you don't. If you drop off midway it's a loss- time, money, and effort. – Hanna Miranda
I found the excursion helpful because it provides insight to what university life is actually like. The student mentors highlighted the difficulties they had to overcome throughout Uni; the fun and entertaining aspects of Uni; the extraordinary facilities and accommodations Curtin provides; and introduced us to the amazing buildings and appetising, although expensive, food they have access to. The student mentors also featured the student's perspective on entering university. This excursion has definitely encouraged me to consider going to university. My understanding and confidence on university has definitely broaden. The excursion has also pulled my attention to courses such as nursing and interior architecture. – E nrico Tulod
