Guest Teachers add to Dance Students knowledge
To provide our dance students with authentic experiences a series of guest moderators, who are dance industry artists or currently training with the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA), have engaged with our program. They observed Year 8 and 9 dance students in their technique exams, a valuable opportunity for our cohorts and one that aims to slowly develop and grow the Dance Department.
In Weeks 7, 8 and 9 of Term 3, we also had two WAAPA Practicum teachers, Faith Kelly and Tegan Carter, work with our junior cohorts. As a fulltime Bachelor of Arts Dance student, the learning you undertake is varied and broad to allow for career options upon graduating. Teaching is a good skill to have under your belt. Our Dance Department hopes to continue this training opportunity in 2023 and beyond.
“Faith was a great teacher who was very kind and calm. I enjoyed the new jumps and exercises.”
“Tegan was friendly and demonstrated everything. Her music choice was good and the classes were fun.”
And we finished off Term 3 with a guest dancer/choreographer from Darwin and ex-student of Ms Quinn, Jordan Bretherton. He took a hip hop workshop with the Year 9 Dance class.
