Eagles Cup Success
On Thursday 16 June, the lower school John Forrest Secondary College (JFSC) AFL team played in the Eagles Cup East Perth division Grand Final. Our team had finished in 2nd place on the ladder by the end of the season. JFSC was playing Chisholm Catholic College in the Grand Final who had finished on top of the ladder.
We knew that it was going to be a tough game as Chisholm had beaten us earlier in the season. Chisholm had plenty of skilful players who have played together a lot. So, we knew everyone needed to play well with grit for us to win. We were ready. The umpire held the ball in the air. Eager spectators were ready with the sideline packed.
Both teams started the game well with both schools being competitive scoring goal for goal. The team being up by three points at the half. We got given some inspirational words from the coaches to pump us up for the 2nd half.
We started off the 2nd a little shaky with Chisholm kicking two consecutive goals forcing JFSC to be down by nine. We locked in and kicked a few points to bring us back into the game. Down by seven points with about ten minutes our forwards stepped up and produced two goals for the team to give JFSC the lead. With a few minutes left in the game, the ball was stuck in Chisholm’s forward half.
The pressure was on. The backs were fighting as hard as they could with the help of the forwards also pushing back to help defend. Chisholm tried hard but could not find a gap through the defence. The ball got kicked to the half and the siren rung. We were victorious!
Special mentions to Stephenie and Rosalyn Massaboi for helping the boys out with waters, Mr Davis, Mr Carroll and Mr Faletti for coaching the team in school and on gameday and thanks to all the supporters that came to watch.
