Year 10 Social Food - High Tea
Year 10 students in Mrs Martinelli's Social Food class were recently assigned a project to prepare and present food for a large group of people attending a High Tea.
The assessment was staged and incorporated the following:
- Research on High Tea offerings in Perth to gain an understanding of the style of cuisine generally available at this style of event
- Identifying possible challenges in preparing and presenting food
- Setting a menu and making appropriate selections by taking into consideration taste, visual appeal, preparation time and availability of ingredients.
Once the entire menu was set, students worked in groups to time plan their recipe to ensure it was completed on time over two classes and ready for serving to guests. The assessment not only considered the final product and how attractively it was presented for a High Tea, but also took into account students' ability to manage time and follow instructions, how successfully they worked in a team, their attention to good hygiene and cleaning up.
Students invited two guest judges to critique the final products, and feedback was overwhelmingly positive.
