James Foley Inspires Year 8 Students to Design Dazzling Stories
On Thursday 4 of May, popular author/illustrator James Foley came into the college to speak to the Year 8 students and give them inspiration for the picture books they will be writing this term.
James showed us his first drawings as a young child, which were questionable to say the least. However, as he grew older, his drawings started to improve, becoming the works of art that they are today. He explained how he was inspired by the show “The Simpsons,” from which he adapted a similar art style to create his drawings as he got older.
James read to us the book “My Dead Bunny,” and afterwards we did a guided drawing of the dead bunny, adding our own individual touches as we drew. Finally, he read to us another story called “There’s something weird about Lena,” a sequel to “My Dead Bunny”.
Overall, it was a fun and engaging experience for the year 8 students and I’m sure we have all been inspired with creative ideas for designing our own picture book. Many thanks to James Foley for coming out to talk with us.
