Mock Trial Round 2 Update: Justice Served with a Side of Sass
On Tuesday, 20th May, the courtroom was buzzing as our two stellar John Forrest teams took to the stage in Round 2 of the Mock Trials. The case? A gripping tale of witness intimidation—but it was our students who truly intimidated the competition.
The Year 10 prosecution team came in with fire in their bellies and legal briefs in hand. Their arguments were so sharp, they could've cross-examined a cactus. With confidence and clarity, they laid down the law and walked away with a convincing win—you could say they prosecuted perfection.
Meanwhile, the Year 11 defence team faced a tougher battle, but they held their ground like seasoned barristers. Their closing arguments were so thorough, they could've doubled as a podcast series—Episode 1: Reasonable Doubt, Episode 2: Still Doubting. Clocking in at a solid stretch, their final remarks were longer than a Northbridge kebab queue at 2am—but every minute counted, and they clinched victory by a single point on countback—justice was served... just in time!
Adding to the intrigue, many of the names in the case—Gandolfini, Kizoni, Diamond, and Jordan—sounded like they'd stepped straight out of a 1990s Northbridge nightclub guest list. All that was missing was a velvet rope and a DJ spinning house music in the background.
Both teams faced off against Rockingham Senior High School and emerged victorious. Their preparation was meticulous (and sometimes painstaking!), their delivery was compelling, and their teamwork was objectionably good.
As we head into the final round, the excitement is building faster than a courtroom drama montage. We encourage all parents, siblings, and curious courtroom enthusiasts to come along and support our legal eagles in the next round. Your cheers might not be admissible in court, but they're always welcome in the gallery. Our round 3 case will be heard sometime between 16th June and 3rd July.
P.S Cheers during a courtroom drama are not actually allowed.
