College Highlights

John Forrest Secondary College is proud of the academic, cultural and sporting achievements of our students and teachers.

Our students regularly demonstrate academic excellence in receiving Certificates of Distinction and Excellence in the Schools Curriculum and Standards Authority Awards and Scholarships.

Our specialist sport programs achieve success in School Sport WA competitions. The First XI Cricket team has won the state-wide one-day cricket championship, the Kim Hughes Shield, five times in 2003, 2006 to 2008 and 2010. Our boys Tennis team also won the Slazenger Cup in 2000.

Our Music students compete and perform in festivals and have accomplished a number of significant achievements:

  • Outstanding in the 2013 ABODA Band Festival (Senior Band).
  • Merit in the 2013 ABODA Band Festival (Junior Band).
  • Merit in the 2010 ABODA Band Festival (Senior Band).
  • Merit in 2012 WA Classical Guitar Ensemble Festival (Senior Guitar Ensemble).
  • Second place in the Belmont Forum Battle of the Christmas Choirs 2010 (Chamber Choir).
  • John Forrest Electric Guitar Ensemble was selected to perform at the SIM Showcase Concert: OPUS 2011.
  • The John Forrest Electric Guitar Ensemble performed in the Contemporary Music Ensemble Festival in 2012 and 2010.

A number of our students have been selected to perform and showcase their talents:

  • Raureti Engelen was selected to perform in the Percussion Ensemble for the SIM Showcase Concert: OPUS 2012.
  • Niamh and Ciaran Fereday have been selected to perform in the Percussion Ensemble for SIM Showcase Concert: OPUS 2014.
  • Ke Wen Lim was selected to perform in the 2014 ABODA WA Honour Band conducted by Stephen Peterson.

We've also performed well as a school. In our 50-year history, the College has achieved:

  • State Training Award 2012
  • Australian Training Award 2011
  • Top Public School Award 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2013
  • State NAB Innovation Award 2010
