WA/NT Dance Exchange Day
The WA/NT Dance Exchange Day was held on Monday 10 June, where the day was full of dance, celebration of Hip-hop, and understanding of how dance can empower young people.
John Forrest Secondary College welcomed 27 dance students from Darwin High School along with their teacher and Northern Territory Dance pioneer, Sarah Calver to participate in the day with our Semester 1 Year 9 class, along with our Year 11 and 12 Certificate II Dance students.
We had the honour of inviting excellent and inspiring professional dancers, Scott Withers and Denzel Mahusay, to share their knowledge and experience on dance and their journey. They elaborated on the history of Hip-hop dance, shared various types of grooves, and shared industry knowledge and career pathways for aspiring and prospective dancers. Scott and Denzal also shared a piece of dance choreography each, which our students, along with students from Darwin High School, performed spectacularly.
The WA/NT Dance Exchange was a wonderful experience, and an example that dance is an intricate art form with rich history that has the ability to bring people together.
